Basics

Lovell, Wyoming is located in NW Wyoming near the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area(search).  The town itself has around 2,500 residents, with several hundred more people living in the rural areas near town.  Called the "Rose City of Wyoming," Lovell, Wyoming was founded in the late 1800s and is named for Henry Clay Lovell.

Industry and Sights

Key employers in the Lovell, Wyoming area include Marathon Oil Company, Georgia-Pacific, AMCOL International, Western Sugar, Bentonite Corporation, Wyo-Ben, and other argicultural and mineral enterprises.  In addition, Lovell sees its share of tourists, who are often traveling to Yellowstone National Park.  Finally, Lovell is located near the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range(search) and at the base of the beautiful Big Horn Mountains(search), home of the Medicine Wheel(search).

Lovell has a public library, 8 churches, 4 motels with 101 total rooms, 2 RV parks with 28 total spaces, and 2 convention facilities with a total capacity of 175 people.  The community has a hospital with 20 beds and a nursing home with 90 beds; further, the Lovell area has 3 doctors and 3 dentists.  Lovell boasts 5 baseball fields, 2 tennis courts, a large indoor swimming pool, a golf course, and 4 city parks.

Lovell is served by The Lovell Chronicle (weekly),  The Billings Gazette (daily), and The Casper Star-Tribune (daily) newspapers.  Several radio stations operate in the area, and a cable company serves the town.  The local telephone company, TCT West, also provides internet access.  Pacific Power and Montana Dakota Utilities provide electricity and gas services.  The Town of Lovell (307-548-6551) supplies water, sewer, and trash removal to the residents.

Each year in late June, Lovell hosts its annual Mustang Days Celebration.  Events include dances, parades, games, a rodeo, the Mustang Follies (variety show), and the crowning of Lovell's Rose Queen.

Big Horn County School District #2 includes the Lovell area.  The town has an elementary school (grades 1-6), a junior high school (grades 6-8), and a high school.  Northwest College is located 20 miles away in Powell.

Lovell's closest neighbors include the towns of Cowley, Byron, Deaver, and Frannie.
